Description:
Between the years 1940 and 1960, Dr. Arbuckle – after having worked alongside Dr. Sutherland – developed her theories about the buttresses and the stress bands of the dura which allowed her to develop a cranial approach that differs from the ones regularly taught. In 2010, my cranial approach changed drastically when I found out about this direct and specific work, that appreciates the complexity of cranial biomechanics. I dedicated my master’s thesis to the life, research, and work of Dr. Arbuckle, going through various archives and meeting some of her students and close colleagues, in order to share her rich expertise. To this day, I believe that her theories and techniques are some of the most advanced in terms of comprehension of cranial mechanics, now being supported by modern theories of tensegrity. The objective of this seminar will thus be the application of the notions to free articular and membranous cranial mobility, allowing for the skull to breath, bend and bow.
According to the stories of Dr. Arbuckle’s clinical results – as well as what I have had the chance to observe over numerous years in clinic – these techniques allow for unprecedented changes in many types of cases: polytraumatized patients or patients with a history of numerous cranial trauma, neurological diseases, developmental disorders in babies and infants, just to name a few.
Even though this class will concentrate of the treatment of the adult skull, all the specificities to apply this work to babies and children will be covered. Also, even if this work is structural and direct, it will not come in opposition to the cranial work that you are already doing, it will add new and rich layers to it.
