Go Where Love Is!
It’s that time of year again, cozy time, where we start to dream about the upcoming new year and how we can do things to improve our lives. People who are having a harder time, feeling sad, feeling lonely, or maybe grieving might be asking the Universe…
“I just want more love in my life”.
My first question for you is, “Who loves you now?”
· Your puppy or dog?
· Your best friend?
· Your children?
· Your life partner?
· Or maybe the person who does your hair or nails?
I absolutely love going to get my hair, nails, and feet done. I’ve been seeing the same hairdresser for years and I feel so adored when I go. He always greets me with the biggest smile and makes me feel really seen. He wants to know what “fabulous” things are happening and loves to chat about the latest news gossip. We end up talking about the Royals, famous people, the best movie in theatres, and what delicious new recipe he’s discovered that always makes my mouth water. He loves to hear about my world, how my job is going, and what fun I’m having in my life. But the most affectionate thing he does for me is he gets really excited about wanting to make me look and feel my very best.
My nail person is the same. She even comes in, only for me, on her scheduled day off, because it works best for my schedule. She is always so eager and grateful to hear the wisdom I’ve learned during my lifetime, and loves to talk about the mysteries and magic of Energy Medicine, which is one of my favourite passions to share with others. She genuinely likes spending time with me and goes out of her way to make me look and feel marvelous. She makes me feel very loved.
My second question for you is, where do you feel loved?
· Having coffee, lunch, or a foot massage out with a good friend?
· Being included in a friend’s fun themed party?
· Running into that friendly cashier that you see at the grocery store?
· Christmas morning, when you get that perfect gift from someone who took the time to think of what would make you happy.
Everyone in my house teases me about my love for Christmas time. I have more decorations than you can possibly imagine. My yard looks like the Vancouver Christmas Market! I decorate 3 Christmas trees, including my year-round family room Norfolk pine. I have my beautiful living room tree that holds all the special ornaments I’ve collected over the years. It tells a story of all the years past with photo frames of my children when they were young, their weddings, my grandchildren, and my precious pets whom I love and have loved and cherished. I still have our family’s first dog’s Santa outfit. She loved to prance around in it along with her bell collar and booties. I put my parents-in-law’s tree, who are no longer with us, covered in all their Scandinavian ornaments, out in our barn space. When I renovated this building, I made sure we had a plug installed in the center of the room in our stamped concrete floor, specifically so we could plug in the tree lights. Christmas Eve night is when we hold hands and circle around the tree, like “Who’s from Whoville”, singing Christmas carols. The children are bubbling with enthusiasm with this ritual that ends with the traditional Danish hymn called "Nu är det jul igen" (Now it’s Christmas again). It’s the highlight of our family holiday time, signaling it’s time to open gifts. We all open up 1 special gift, and everyone is beaming, feeling spoiled and very loved.
My mother was the best gift giver I ever knew. Our Livingroom would be filled wall to wall with gifts on Christmas morning. I was so excited to come down to find toys ready to play with, new outfits to wear, and stockings filled with goodies to eat. Now being a grandmother, I can say there is nothing more joyful than listening to the squeals of delight that our children or grandchildren make when they open a gift, they are most thrilled about. I just love this time of year where we go out to Christmas markets, drink hot chocolate, look at all the festive lights, and enjoy making special memories with the people we love. It’s a time where we think of everyone we know, sending out Christmas cards, and are reminded to laugh, imagine, play and have fun. Our inner child is so happy to come out to play, and the world suddenly seems less dim and cumbersome than it used to be.
It's a sentimental time of year. I can’t help but think of my Granny’s laughter after she had served us an amazing Christmas feast. Dressed in our finest, we would be wearing our paper hats, satiated and content. As we’d enter her living room for after-dinner aperitifs, she would have her old turntable cued up for music and be the first one in the middle of the room dancing with all her grandchildren. It was a night we had waited for all year. It was a night when we felt very special and truly loved.
I’m a person who just loves the “feeling of love”. People remark how children seem to love me. I see a baby, and my heart swells with feelings of wanting to nuzzle and smell their delicate heads. I’m convinced that if they could bottle that smell and people wore it, we’d have a much happier world. It’s a scent of untainted innocence; raw radiance mixed with a pinch of delight. It’s the love hormone on steroids. It’s the fragrance of a fresh new little soul in this world full of hope and wonder. They haven’t had time to become tarnished by the world’s rough edges. When I get that heart swell of energy, I must release rainbow and unicorn energy because children beam, flirt, and coo back at me with all their glee, and it’s this amazing exchange of love. I’ve had children in stores grab my leg, thinking I’m their mother, and look up, surprised that I’m someone they don’t even know. They grin from ear to ear when I pass by them in their strollers, and I watch them turn their heads to follow me as I walk by.
I remember visiting my Granny at her care home before she died, and when I brought one of my grandchildren, all the people in the home would light up with happiness and joy. They recognized the radiant “love” energy that is so strong and vibrant in young children. They are like a furry little puppy or kitten, so adorable that you want to hug and take care of them. They make you feel that amazing energy of “love” again!
We all have things to gripe about. I find that if you can take your mind, body, and soul to where the love is instead, and focus on that, life just begins to feel more hopeful, prosperous, and joyful again. Isn’t that what we all are wishing for?
Happy Holidays, and may your 2026 be forever full of more Love!
