Dinner with Manna | Sacred Meals

Last week I had the chance to share with my family, pre-prepared meals from Manna | Sacred Meals, an awesome meal food prep company I provide nutritional consultation for.  Manna spends countless hours perfecting their vegan and vegetarian recipes, creating delicious and healthy dishes to deliver to your door. We were having a crazy week at home and these meals came at just the right time to help us cope while we maneuvered our busy schedules.  Thanks for the gift of these meals Manna!

If you’ve already tried Manna, you will know that their meals are delivered in an insulated bag kept cold with an ice pack.  Each meal includes well thought out components in individual bags, and are labelled and numbered so it’s so incredibly simple to follow the instructions for meals in minutes. Our four meals included four bags each, three that needed to be heated, and one topping.

We decided to split our four meals over two nights. Two meals shared among the four of us was plenty of food for dinner, with no leftovers.

I love the clear instructions, with each bag labelled with the dish name, bag number, and minutes needed for cooking.  Once our large pot of water was boiling we set a timer and placed our bags according to the minutes needed for their heating.  Easy Peasy!

The first night we tried the Tofu Bowl (jalapeno garlic ginger tofu + green onion fried rice + marinated mushrooms & gai lan) and the Cauliflower Steaks with Potato & Veg.  I boiled them all in one pot - in hindsight not the best choice as it was a challenge to figure out which component went with which dish after the printing on the label rubbed off in the water. Poor planning on my part but I figured it out quickly and was able to build the dishes easily.

The family loved the Tofu Bowl.  The sauce was flavourful, plentiful and had the perfect thickness.  The marinated mushrooms were addictive and I was so glad only two of us enjoy eating them - more for me! I love gai lan and include it in our vegetable rotation so it was nice to have it added here.  I also enjoyed the chili peanut topping as it added a perfect crunch.  Overall this was a dish we would definitely keep on a regular rotation.

Two out of the four of us enjoyed the Cauliflower Steaks with Potato & Veg.  We all loved the potatoes and the mushroom component was once again delish. The cauliflower wasn’t loved by all but I would definitely try it again as it wasn’t warm by the time I served it at the table. Timing is everything and this first night I did not have my method perfected.  I mistakenly tried to serve everyone separately rather than create two main dishes and have everyone serve themselves. Night two ran much more smoothly.

When we tried the Mixed Bean Cassoulet and the Coconut Peanut Tofu with brown rice  garlic fried peppers, kale & broccoli,  I was happy to have figured out my serving method and how to keep track of each meal and its components.

OMG these two dishes were fabulous!  The cassoulet was hands down our favourite (I’m still dreaming of it today).  The balance and type of spices were perfect (in my humble opinion) and the overall dish was a delight to eat.  I love that the cassoulet was served with in season veggies of asparagus and broccolini.  In our house, the more green the better so having two green veggie side dishes made me a happy mama. The Coconut Peanut Tofu was definitely a dish we would order again.  I had requested no peppers (we don’t get along) but may order the dish “as is” next time so the rest of the family has a chance to enjoy the dish in its entirety. Once again the sauce was delicious, the veggies were well marinated, and the chili peanuts made for a perfect crunchy topping.

I love that Manna is more than a meal delivery company with it’s passion for local food, it’s desire to operate in as sustainable a way as possible, and it’s commitment to giving back. I truly love connecting with Chef Marie and feel blessed I can play a small part in helping Manna fulfill their purpose to provide nutrient-full plant-based meals and to leave a positive impact on people.

I invite you to try Manna|Sacred Meals and experience for yourself the love they put into their food and into their commitment to their community. Learn more about Manna here.
